what is a vision?

A Vision is a school’s hope for the future as a community and in particular for the students in its care.

The Vision is a goal for all persons associated with the school to work towards.  It is the shared understanding of the school’s purpose, so staff, parents, students and the community can work in partnership to provide the best possible environment for students to develop.

What is St Anthony’s Vision?
Our Vision is: “Lighting pathways for life”

Why this Vision?

This Vision is founded on our history, our shared beliefs, our values and hope for the future as a school community.

What is our history?
St Anthony’s was founded by the Presentation Sisters in 1954 at the invitation of the Parish Priest Fr McMorrow, The Sisters bought the  charism of Nano Nagle, the founder of the Presentation Order of Nuns, to the developing suburb of Harristown.  Nano’s own education was initially at a ‘hedge school’ in Ireland, which provided Catholic education. Because of her family’s affluence she was able to complete her education in France.  It was here that she began to appreciate the plight of the poor, to which she later devoted her life in Ireland. She became known as the ‘Lady of the Lantern’ for her work in bringing the light of education to the poor. The patron Saint of our parish church, St Anthony was a scholar and a talented speaker and also believed in the power of education. He challenged people to live a Christian life and often used the symbols of nature to explain his message.

What are our beliefs?

At St Anthony’s School, we believe that:
  • We are the Mission of the Church.

"Lighting pathways for life” - an explanation.

Education of the whole child; academically, socially, culturally, physically, emotionally and spiritually is a role shared amongst the family, the school and society.  The light is the love, care, nurturing, expertise and encouragement that members of the community, especially the staff offer the students. The school aims to provide varied opportunities to enable children to learn skills, attitudes, values and beliefs to live life to the best of their ability. We consider these opportunities as pathways. As all children are unique in their learning and expression of life, they therefore respond differently.
